Quads through mud and forest — riding in bad weather
Blog · Tips

Rain and bad weather? Perfect.

Why riding a quad through the mud is the best decision ever.

Picture that classic, frustrating scenario: you've planned the perfect weekend in nature, gathered your crew, maybe even booked a day off. You wake up on Saturday morning, pull back the curtains, and the sky over Zagreb is grey. It's raining.

Most people's first instinct is to cancel all their plans, retreat to the comfort of the sofa and switch on Netflix with the feeling of a weekend gone to waste.

But what if we told you that rain is actually the best thing that could have happened to you? In the world of quad rental, dry summer days are great, but riding a quad in the rain and mud is where the magic really begins.

Is it OK to ride a quad in the rain?

Yes, absolutely. Every quad in our fleet is designed and factory-protected for extreme conditions, which includes heavy rain, deep puddles, mud and snow. The engine, electronics and air intakes are protected against water ingress. Riding in the rain isn't just allowed — among off-road enthusiasts it's recognised as the most thrilling kind of riding there is.

Why does off-road riding only truly make sense in the mud?

Riding on dry, dusty gravel has its charms, but it's only when the ground soaks up water that you unlock the full potential of these machines. Here's why our most experienced clients deliberately book slots when the forecasters are announcing worsening weather.

1. No dust — breathe deep

When you ride in a group on hot summer days, the vehicle in front of you kicks up clouds of thick dust. You have to wear a scarf over your face, visibility drops and the dust gets literally everywhere. With the first drops of rain, the dust vanishes. The air becomes incredibly clean, crisp and fresh, and the scent of wet forest and earth creates an atmosphere that's a real pleasure to be in.

2. A return to childhood — the "puddle-jumping" phenomenon

Remember that feeling as a child when you deliberately jumped into the biggest puddle on the street just to see the water splash everywhere? Riding a quad over wet terrain is that same primal joy, multiplied by a thousand. When you charge a Linhai or Segway quad weighing over 350 kilograms into a muddy puddle at speed and a wall of water and mud rises high into the air around you, it's impossible not to laugh out loud under your helmet.

3. Riding technique and "drifting"

A wet surface completely changes the physics of riding. Instead of racing straight ahead, riding in the mud demands more technique, tactics and torque. A controlled slide of the rear end (drifting) through corners on a muddy surface is much easier, more predictable and more fun than on dry gravel. You'll feel like a professional rally driver.

Machines that don't acknowledge bad weather

You might worry that the quad will stall if you go through deep water, or that you'll be stuck in the forest forever. This is where our no-compromise fleet comes into play.

  • Segway AT5L and Linhai Landforce models: these beasts come with genuine 4×4 drive. When the terrain gets extremely slippery and steep, a simple press of a button engages all-wheel drive and locks the differential. The quad turns into a tank that claws relentlessly forward through the deepest mud.
  • Deep-tread tyres: our quads are "shod" in specialised off-road tyres with an aggressive tread designed precisely to self-clean of mud. They literally "chew" through soft ground and provide maximum traction.
  • Protected electronics: all the vital parts, from the spark plugs to the ECU, sit high under the body panels and are protected by hermetic seals.

And most importantly — we clean, you enjoy. Your only task is to bring the quad back to our base in Veliko Polje, no matter how caked in mud it is. Washing and detailed servicing of the machine is left to us.

How to dress properly for a wet route

The only thing that can ruin a rainy adventure is bad clothing. As the Norwegian saying goes: "There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad gear."

  • Layered and smart: forget cotton, because it holds water and cools the body. Wear synthetic, sporty materials. Over that, pull on a light waterproof windbreaker or rain jacket.
  • Footwear that saves the day: forget trainers, and especially canvas shoes. The best investment for this day is high hiking boots or — better still — classic rubber wellies. Trust us, when you step into a puddle to check the depth of the terrain, you'll be grateful.
  • Gloves: a pair of work or neoprene gloves will protect your hands from cold wind and moisture and give you a firm grip on the handlebars and throttle.
  • The secret of our cases: each of our 10 quads is fitted with massive front and rear cases that are completely waterproof. You can pack a full change of dry clothes, a towel, dry shoes, phones and wallets in them. Once the muddy expedition is over, simply open the case and change.

We provide the top-quality, safe and hygienically maintained helmets that protect your face from rain and mud.

Where to ride when it's raining?

From our base in Veliko Polje you have perfect access to routes made for wet conditions:

  • For fast, technical riding, head for the forest trails on the edges of the city, where tree roots and soft ground will test your skill.
  • For an epic adventure, choose our hugely popular route towards Pokupsko and the Kupa river valley. There you'll find wide, untouched expanses and impressive muddy sections that will make you feel like a true wilderness explorer.

Next time you see clouds

Don't cancel your plans. Don't let a bit of water from the sky steal your precious weekend. Rain isn't an obstacle — rain is a free upgrade to your off-road ride. It turns ordinary gravel into an adrenaline park, and a routine ride into an epic battle with the elements that you'll come out of dirty, wet and incredibly, childishly happy.

Our Segway and Linhai machines are waiting in the garage, fully ready for the toughest conditions. Show the rain who's boss.
